In 1989/90 Sampdoria won the European Cup Winners’ Cup, defeating Anderlecht in Gothenburg after extra time. Vialli scored both goals in the final and formed the club’s established partnership with Roberto Mancini as the side set the stage for the Scudetto run that followed a year later.
