Abel Balbo was Roma’s top scorer that season, with 17 league goals (19 in all competitions), in a turbulent campaign that saw Carlos Bianchi replaced by Nils Liedholm in April and the team finish 12th in Serie A, exiting both the UEFA Cup and Coppa Italia in the second round. Balbo continued as the club’s leading centre-forward, wearing No. 9 in the early years of fixed squad numbers.
