Taribo West joined Inter from Auxerre in 1997 and became a regular in Gigi Simoni’s back line during 1997–98, helping the Nerazzurri finish 2nd in Serie A and win the UEFA Cup (3–0 vs Lazio in Paris). Physically dominant and quick across the ground, he covered both centre-back and the left side, alongside stalwarts like Bergomi and a young Javier Zanetti.

West’s vivid green braided hairstyles made him an instant cult figure, and after his European career he became a Pentecostal pastor in Nigeria.
