🏛 PRIVATE COLLECTION 🏛
Lazio home shirt, 1996/97, match-worn by Pierluigi Casiraghi (No. 9).
Umbro issue with Cirio sponsor; long sleeves, polo collar and CASIRAGHI 9 in black flock to the back, season-correct Lazio type.
In Zdeněk Zeman’s high-tempo 4-3-3, Lazio pressed aggressively, overloaded the wings and played some of the league’s most vertical football. They spent the year in the European places, mixed big home wins with breathless scorelines, and qualified for the UEFA Cup again as the project matured ahead of the late-90s trophy push.
Leading the line, Pierluigi Casiraghi worked the channels, attacked the near post and offered a constant aerial outlet for wide deliveries—an ideal fit for Zeman’s cross-heavy system. It was also the year he cemented his Azzurri place, capped by the famous winner at Wembley in February 1997, a performance that mirrored his blend of graft, movement and timely finishing in Rome.
Status: Part of the Calcio 90 Private Collection, not for sale.
