Back in Serie A under Emiliano Mondonico, Atalanta mixed a bright autumn, four straight wins briefly lifted them to third, with a difficult winter run and ultimately finished 13th. In the Coppa Italia they put together a notable run to the final, knocking out Cremonese, holders Juventus (via Fabio Gallo’s extra-time winner), Cagliari and Bologna before losing to Fiorentina over two legs (0–1, 0–2).

Wearing squad No. 20, the 22-year-old centre-forward made 21 official appearances and scored 9 goals (7 in Serie A, 2 in Coppa Italia). His power and direct movement gave Atalanta a focal point alongside Domenico Morfeo, and his form earned a transfer to Juventus the following summer, the launch pad for his rise among Europe’s elite strikers.
