In transition after the Scala peak, Parma reshaped the attack and rotated heavily in Serie A and Europe. The group still had elite players—Benarrivo’s engine, Dino Baggio’s timing, Zola’s craft—and, in flashes, produced the vertical, counter-punching football that had become a club hallmark, even as results were more uneven.

The Ballon d’Or winner’s Parma season was brief but unmistakable: Stoichkov operated off the left, cutting inside onto his right to shoot from the arc or thread diagonal passes into the No. 9.
