While Luca Marchegiani is best remembered for stepping in at USA ’94 after Pagliuca was sent off, his club form the following season was brilliant. He recorded 15 clean sheets and only conceded 34 goals as Zdeněk Zeman’s side finished 2nd in Serie A with 63 points. Zeman’s model demanded an aggressive line and pressing, with the keeper routinely sweeping behind the defence—exactly the profile Marchegiani delivered that season.
