Ronaldo’s season turned on 21 November 1999. Against Lecce his right knee buckled and scans confirmed a ruptured tendon, cutting short a night Inter still won 6–0. He would not return until April, when a brief Coppa Italia comeback ended with a second, devastating injury. The Lecce match has become a grim waypoint in his Inter story: a luminous No. 9 in full stride, halted by a knee that changed the course of his prime.
