Milan’s 1997/98 season under returning coach Fabio Capello ended 10th in Serie A and Coppa Italia runners-up. Kluivert’s only year in Italy yielded 6 Serie A goals in 27 games, plus 3 in the Coppa Italia during the run to the final. Still just 21, he showed the first-touch finishing and glide that would take him to Barcelona the following summer. He later became the Netherlands’ leading scorer of his era with 40 international goals.
