It was a tight, defence-first Serie A in which Napoli relied heavily on solidity at the San Paolo. The club’s identity in that era was anchored by elite keeping—no coincidence given Castellini’s presence, and grinding results in narrow matches.
Nicknamed Il Giaguaro, he set the all-time Serie A record for minutes without conceding at home with Napoli (over 1,180 minutes) and is celebrated in club lore for long shut-out sequences across the early 80s. A previous Torino record-holder as well, Castellini brought reflexes and command that made Naples a notoriously hard away day in that span.
