In 1996–97, Giuliano Giannichedda made 23 Serie A appearances for Udinese as Alberto Zaccheroni’s side finished an impressive 5th in Serie A. A defensive midfielder, he had joined the club from Sora in 1995 and was still in the early phase of his top-flight career, gradually establishing himself in a side built around players such as Oliver Bierhoff, Marcio Amoroso and Paolo Poggi. That season helped lay the groundwork for his rise at Udinese, where he would become a regular before later moving on to Lazio and Juventus.
