Milan beat Sampdoria over two legs to win the 1990 UEFA Super Cup, then travelled to Tokyo to sweep up the Intercontinental Cup. Van Basten spearheaded the Dutch core that kept Milan on top of Europe after back-to-back European Cups in ’89 and ’90.
