Alessandro “Billy” Costacurta formed one half of the era’s defining centre-back pairing with Franco Baresi. Calm on the ball and perfectly positioned, he helped Milan reclaim the 1995–96 Scudetto after back-to-back European Cup finals in ’93 and ’94. Leadership by example in a defence built on timing and organisation.
