Roberto Mancini was Sampdoria’s creative lead in 1990–91, linking with Gianluca Vialli to drive Vujadin Boškov’s side to the club’s first Scudetto. He scored 12 Serie A goals in 30 appearances (16 in all competitions) while operating as a second striker/creator, with Vialli finishing capocannoniere on 19. Samp reached the Cup Winners’ Cup quarter-finals and the Coppa Italia and European Super Cup finals; within that run Mancini provided the continuity between midfield and attack that defined the “Gemelli del Gol” partnership
